NERVOUS SYSTEM
reset
90 MINUTES FOR DEEP REST & RECOVERY
My Nervous System Reset classes near Norwich offer a calm, supportive space to slow down and allow the body to move out of stress and into deep relaxation. Combining gentle yoga, breathwork, meditation and crystal singing bowls, these sessions are designed to help regulate the nervous system, release physical tension and quiet the mind. As more people across Norwich and Norfolk look for natural ways to manage stress, improve sleep and support emotional wellbeing, nervous system regulation practices are becoming an important part of modern self-care.

This class is designed to guide you out of fight-or-flight and into a calmer, more regulated state. Through a blend of slow, supported movement, vibrational sound therapy, and guided meditation, we’ll help the body and mind drop into stillness. Each part of the class is intentionally designed to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, the part responsible for rest, digestion, healing, and recovery.
No experience is needed. This class is for anyone feeling burnt out, tired, anxious, overstimulated, or simply craving deep rest.

"Hi Katrina, beautiful class last night , I loved it! When you did the singing bowls I saw various colours in my third eye such as violet and green, then yellow and I felt at one point like I was floating out of my body. So good. I left quickly because I could feel some emotions rising that I wanted to release in private , so it definitely worked to bring me out of a cortisol induced state. I feel so much more grounded today . Thank you so much Julie x"

- 01This session is for anyone who feels like their body and mind rarely get the chance to properly slow down. Many of us live in a constant state of subtle activation. The nervous system stays switched on, moving quickly between responsibilities, work, screens, conversations, and decision making. Over time this can leave the body feeling tight, tired, overstimulated, or unable to fully relax. My Nervous System Reset sessions are designed to gently guide the body back into a calmer state through slow movement, breath, sound, and stillness. People attend these sessions if they: • Feel mentally overloaded or overstimulated • Struggle to switch off after work • Carry tension in the neck, shoulders, back, or jaw • Experience stress, irritability, anxiety, or emotional fatigue • Have difficulty sleeping or relaxing deeply • Simply want space to slow down and reconnect with themselves No yoga experience is needed. The movement is slow, supportive, and accessible, and the focus is on care and regulation rather than exercise. Many people leave feeling calmer, lighter, and more settled in both body and mind.
- 02Cortisol is a hormone released by the body during stress. In small amounts it is helpful, helping us wake up, focus, and respond to challenges. The difficulty comes when the nervous system stays activated for long periods of time. When the body remains in a heightened stress response, cortisol levels can stay elevated. Over time this can influence many systems in the body. People notice things such as: • Increased muscle tension or tightness • Difficulty switching off or relaxing • Poor sleep or waking frequently during the night • Digestive disruption • Feeling wired yet exhausted • Low energy despite resting • Brain fog or difficulty concentrating • Heightened emotional sensitivity The body is designed to move in cycles between activation and recovery. However, modern life often keeps us in a constant state of alertness without enough time spent in the recovery phase. Practices that encourage slow breathing, gentle movement, stillness, and sound help activate the parasympathetic nervous system. This is the part of the nervous system responsible for rest, digestion, repair, and emotional regulation. Over time, giving the body regular opportunities to down-regulate can help restore balance and resilience.
- 03Sound has a direct influence on the nervous system because the body is highly responsive to vibration and rhythm. The human body is composed largely of water, and sound travels through water very effectively. When instruments such as crystal bowls are played, the vibrations move through the air and can be felt subtly throughout the body. Slow, sustained tones encourage the brain to shift into calmer brainwave states associated with relaxation, meditation, and deep rest. Many people describe the experience of sound as feeling like an “internal massage”, where tension softens and the nervous system gradually shifts into a more regulated state. This is why sound has been used in many cultures for centuries as part of meditation, ritual, and healing practices.
- 04The bowls used in these sessions are made from 99.9% pure crystal quartz, the same material used in precision technologies such as watches and electronic components because of its ability to hold and transmit vibration with clarity. High-grade crystal bowls produce a very pure and stable tone. The bowls used here also have a slightly textured surface which helps create a richer vibration when played. Each bowl has been carefully selected and tuned so the tones complement one another, creating a layered soundscape rather than isolated notes. This allows the sound to feel immersive and continuous throughout the session. While crystal bowls can be purchased widely, the quality of the material, tuning, and resonance can vary greatly. These higher grade bowls tend to produce a fuller, more stable tone and a longer vibration, which allows the sound to travel through the space and sustain more gently.
- 05Everyone’s experience is different, and there is no correct way to feel during a nervous system reset or sound bath. The purpose of this session is to create the conditions for the body and mind to slow down. Once the body feels safe and supported, the nervous system begins to settle into a more restful state. When the sound begins, people can enter a deeply relaxed state where the brain moves into slower brainwave patterns. The sound from these particular bowls can guide the brain into theta brainwave activity. Theta is a state often associated with deep meditation, daydreaming, and the moments just before sleep. In this state the analytical, thinking part of the mind becomes quieter. The body can move into a place of rest where the nervous system is able to regulate more easily. Because of this, people sometimes experience things such as: • drifting in and out of sleep • vivid imagery or colours • dream-like thoughts or memories • a feeling of floating or deep heaviness • emotional release during or after • a deep sense of calm Some people remain fully aware throughout the session, while others feel as though they have slept very deeply. Both experiences are completely normal. If this is your first session, the sound may be uncomfortable at first, the most helpful thing you can do is take a deep breath in and out to fully release, let the vibration move through you, and allow the experience to unfold without trying to control it. It is normal for suppressed emotions to finally surface when the body feels safe enough. There is nothing you need to achieve. The practice works best when you allow yourself to relax fully, let go and receive.
- 06Comfort is very important during these sessions, as the more supported the body feels, the easier it is for the nervous system to relax. You will spend extended time lying down in stillness, so it can help to bring anything that allows you to feel warm and supported. Many people choose to bring: • a blanket (highly recommended) • warm socks • a small pillow or cushion • an eye pillow or scarf to cover the eyes Organic cotton yoga mats and bolsters are provided. The intention is to create a comfortable, cocoon-like space where the body can fully let go of holding or effort. Once the body feels supported by the floor and warm enough to relax, the breath naturally slows and the nervous system can begin to settle. Simply arrive as you are, and give yourself permission to rest. I truly recommend making yourself at home; this space is for you to rest. The more comfortable you are, the more your body can let go.
- 07The sessions take place at The Painted Barn, Barnham Broom, a peaceful countryside studio just 20 minutes from Norwich. The space is warm, quiet, and intentionally designed to support relaxation. The studio has underfloor heating, which keeps the room comfortably warm throughout the session. There is also free parking directly outside the studio. The countryside setting, combined with the calm studio environment, helps create a space where you can properly slow down and rest.
